About the Job

The Economic Security (EcoSec) Generalist manages the implementation of the EcoSec programs in Banadir and Lower Shabelle regions in line with the adopted strategy and standard operating tools and procedures. He/she is involved in programs planning, budgeting, assessment, design, response, monitoring and reporting. And acts as the Team leader for the EcoSec resident staff based in Mogadishu

This is resident/National position based in Mogadishu.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Monitors general economic/food security situation and related trends in Banadir and Lower Shabelle regions

  2. Provides regular updates on the findings of the economic/food security monitoring and proposes the relevant action/response as required

  3. Ensures that the implementation is in line with the adopted monthly, quarterly and annual operational plans and budgets

  4. Conducts data collection and analysis on EcoSec interventions and coaches involved Somalia Red Crescent Society (SRCS) Relief and Livelihood Teams(RLT) in this regard

  5. Monitors the progress of specific interventions against the pre-set objectives, operational plans and budget, makes necessary adjustments and provides regular reports on the monitoring findings

  6. Monitors and provides the support on the community engagement of the involved RLTs, and ensures integration of good practices concerning the accountability towards beneficiaries

  7. Documents the lessons learned based on the monitoring findings and uses these to propose the adjustments at technical and strategic levels

  8. Ensures adequate coordination at the field level with the respective EcoSec Field Officers, field management team, RLT branch teams, including other departments on the integration of EcoSec projects within the overall program/delegation strategy

  9. Conducts field assessments, monitoring and review activities based on the internal needs, adopted strategy and procedures

  10. Supervises, guides and coaches the involved SRCS RLTs on assessment, monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring that these are conducted in line with the standard procedures

  11. Adjusts the assessment and monitoring activities at the field level, including the related internal tools, based on the observed needs

  12. Conducts response analysis of different interventions, associated risks and mitigation measures, including appropriateness and feasibility aspects

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  1. University degree in Economics, Development studies, Sociology or Agriculture/Veterinary science

  2. 6 years’ experience in a similar field of activity

  3. Comprehensive knowledge of and exposure to a wide range of humanitarian assistance, emergency relief and related protection issues

  4. Training capability in economic security relief and recovery/resilience projects

  5. Proven experience and skills in using data collection and analysis methods

  6. Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills

  7. Proven team management and motivation skills

  8. Ability to create a focused learning environment at all levels regardless of the audience

  9. Excellent planning, organizational and reporting skills

  10. Very good knowledge of political, social, economic and cultural aspects in Somalia

  11. Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali
