We work with sub-granting and capacity building partner organisations around the world, on issues relating to democracy and human rights, gender equality, and environment and climate change. We also mediate grants from Sida (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) to Swedish organisations cooperating with local partners in 70 countries. We have offices in Sweden, Belarus, Cambodia, Colombia, Kenya and Somalia.


FORUM Syd implements the Swedish-Somali Business Program (SSBP) with Business Swedish as its main partner. As a part of the Swedish Government’s Development Cooperation strategy for Somalia, the ultimate goal of the SSBP is employment creation and increase of income for those economically active in Somalia, contributing to livelihood improvement and human security across the country with a focus on young people 18 – 35 years, and with a particular focus on women in this age group

The specific objectives are:

  1. Review of equipment specifications
  2. Oversight of installation of equipment
  3. Technical input on operational management and expansion of a poultry farm
  4. Best practice guidance on managing a poultry farm
  5. Hygiene and safety training for poultry farm workers


The Consultancy is expected to produce the following deliverables:

·         Technical input towards farm expansion, infrastructural developments e.g. construction chicken housing, and procurement of equipment

                                i.            Assessment report on current state of business and equipment specification

·         Installation verification of equipment

                                i.            Verification report

·         Provision of hygiene & safety training for poultry farm workers

                                i.            Brief manual on hygiene & safety poultry farming techniques


Have a university degree in one of the following areas: Enterprise development, agricultural economics, poultry management, economics, agribusiness, agronomy, poultry science, rural development or any other equivalent degree.

Work experience:

·         Good knowledge and skill in poultry farming/production.

·         Minimum of 5-year experience in supporting producer organizations in poultry production and marketing in Horn of Africa.

·         Be culturally sensitive to pastoral livestock and have good facilitation and animation skills.

·         Proven entrepreneurial ability will be a significant asset.

·         Knowledge of the intervention areas or a physical presence will be an asset.

·         Ability to work in rural areas for fairly long period will be an asset.


  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Ability to develop concepts, plan and execute projects and corporate materials;
  • Knowledge and experience on poultry management in developing countries preferred;
  • Experience with project development and management, and managing to deadlines;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;

·         Strong written and oral communication skills in positions requiring communications in a broad and diverse audience. Self-starter with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.

·         Previous experience in Somalia and/or similar settings a plus.

·         Professional level of English writing and speaking;

·         Knowledge of Somali language and culture is an advantage.
