Organizational background:

Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger) has been conducting humanitarian programs in Somalia since May 1992. Currently, AAH is conducting its humanitarian activities in Somalia focused on treating and preventing malnutrition, increasing access to clean water and appropriate sanitation, strengthening the food-security, livelihoods and thus boosting the resilience of communities in Somalia as well as emergency response via program bases in Somalia.

The Positions and responsibilities:

AAH Somalia is looking for a Somali national to fill the position of Agricultural Supervisor. The position will be based in Elberde-Somalia. The incumbent reports hierarchically and technically to the Food Security and Livelihood Program Manager.

The Agricultural Supervisor’s core responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

Objective 1: Provide technical support for all agricultural activities:

  • Train beneficiaries on improved agricultural practices
  • Organize farmers into groups that can become farmer associations in the future.
  • Responsible identifying different varieties of agriculture crops in Elberde and surrounding districts,
  • Work closely with the existing government and private agriculture structures
  • Coordinate and provide extension service in liaison with food security field officer
  • Asses different crops grown including current ones and recommend drought resistant crops
  • Compile reports on the agriculture activities in the area
  • Provide technical assistance to and advise community groups on project identification and implementation strategies
  • Establish and follow up fruit and vegetable nurseries.
  • Demonstrate agro-techniques including land preparation, seed cultivation, irrigation, weed control, pest control, crop rotation, etc to farmers.

Objective 2: Participate in the evolution and reorientation of the project

  • Participate in Food Security department meetings Analyse and build on expériences in order to share the lessons learnt
  • Propose community based new agriculture directions for the project
  • Participante In the collection of post distribution monitoring data
  • Conduct Farmer training sessions in the field and provide TOT to Community Mobilizers in coordination with the Food Security Field officer.
  • Assist in Identifying farmer group nurseries and ensure long-term sustainability by the end of the program.

Objective 3: Community mobilization

  • Mobilize and sensitize community farming groups
  • Develop farmers training plans
  • Coordinate with the Community Mobilization Team in identifying potential beneficiaries to promote rural rehabilitation and secure the livelihoods of farmers and villagers.
  • Organize the work plans to optimize the community outreach systems
  • Organise farmer field days and exchange visits
  • Monitor all framing kits distributions and conduct post distribution monitoring.
  • Liaise with other project teams and staff to ensure that all ACF community projects are well coordinated and effectively implemented.

Objective 4: Represent the Organization when dealing with community level on agricultural activities, reporting and monitoring

  • Represent ACF at national and regional level in health technical meetings in the absence of Nutrition and Health HOD.
  • Produce narrative reports including spreadsheets reflecting asset distributions, geographic area, number of beneficiaries and any other information relevant to the project


  • Educational and professional background: College Diploma in an agriculture and/or agriculture related field (ie. Agronomy, Crop Science, horticulture).
  • A technical diploma plus proven experience will be considered.
  • 2 to 3 years of direct implementation of agriculture extension and working with subsistence farmers.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be initiative
  • Good facilitation, analytical, planning and report writing skills
  • Experience in community and farmer group mobilization
  • Good supervisory and organizational skills,Good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of agricultural issues and techniques
  • Good knowledge of implementing projects
  • Self-motivated and reliable
  • Experience and knowledge of working with NGOs in agriculture programs in Somalia
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English,Understanding of the local language is a must
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook
  • Willing to extensively travel throughout the project area.
