IOM Somalia’s Migration Health Division (MHD) is currently implementing health projects across all major regions and migration points in the country, including primary healthcare service delivery through static and mobile health clinics, health systems strengthening initiatives, and medical support to migrants and returnees. IOM is recruiting a Health Data Processing Assistant to support monitoring and evaluation of health programming.

The successful candidate will be responsible for data capture and compilation, data reconciliation and quality control, database development and management, statistical and non-statistical analysis, generation of routine and customized reports, and support in implementation of operational research activities.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct statistical analysis of routine primary healthcare data provided from field teams in each region.
  2. Generate routine and customized reports from analyses of MHD data.
  3. Carry out data verification and quality control for all MHD indicators.
  4. Compile, input, and analyse primary-source data collected through cross-sectional and longitudinal assessments and surveys.
  5. Manage and maintain MHD data management systems / databases. Create a hard and soft copy archiving system.
  6. Assist in development of forms and tools for data collection in new projects and pilot projects.
  7. Support in development and implementation of operational research activities.
  8. For IOM’s migration and protection assistance programmes, perform data entry of medical information of migrants/returnees into MiMOSA or other databases as required, as well as periodic analysis.
  9. Update MHD data collection and processing SOPs in coordination with Health Programme Officer and Health Programme Coordinator
  10. Conduct periodic visits to MHD field sites for data quality assurance, including monitoring and supervision of data collection, compilation and management.
  11. Train MHD field staff in proper data collection, data management and basic data analysis.
  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience


  • University degree, preferably with management of large databases and statistical software, preferably involving health or social sciences with at least 3 years of professional work experience in information management systems, preferably in a non-government organization or UN agencies; or,
  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution with 5 Years of professional experience;


  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access and Power Point.
  • Experience in the use of STATA, SPSS, SAS, and/or Epi Info.
  • Understanding of statistical principles necessary for data analysis
  • Knowledge of and experience working with public health indicators is an advantage
  • Capable of working under stressful and difficult conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality in performing responsibilities.
  • Mature individual, able to work independently, effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds at all levels.
  • Previous work experience with an international organization or NGO implementing health programmes is an advantage.


Fluency in English and Somali is required.
